Meet the Team

Shelley Ferguson

Shelley is our Principal Designer. Her appreciation of design has been nurtured over a 20-year career as an award-winning stylist and editor of interior and fashion magazines, including Editorial Director of HOME, Simply You Living, Your Home & Garden and Fashion Quarterly.

Her love of interiors has led to hosting TV shows Slice of Paradise and The Block NZ, and becoming the national ambassador for Master Builders Association.

New Zealand’s natural landscapes married with a background in fashion has inspired Shelley’s ‘liveable luxury’ aesthetic. She combines chic, contemporary pieces with textural layers to create comfortable and luxurious spaces people love coming home to.

RACHEL HARPER

Designer Rachel helps create our CAD drawings, floor plans and elevations, and also works as Shelley’s design assistant.

Carmen Hernandez-Oliver

Interior architect Carmen is a whizz at creating plans and ensuring no detail is missed. She’s basically a tech guru.

Steven Ferguson

Previously an Olympic athlete and America’s Cup grinder, Steven puts his practical skills to work running the logistical side of the business — coordinating deliveries, quality control, freight & installs.

I started SFS because I love to create spaces that add memorable impact to people’s lives — whether it’s a quiet corner of the kitchen to enjoy your morning coffee or a large outdoor setting to host epic celebrations. As humans, we’re emotionally wired to crave the comfort of home. To have a space we love being in, a space we feel completely ourselves, a space that inspires us to live our best lives.

Creating bespoke designs that can be bought to life by our wonderful network of suppliers and craftspeople is my passion, because it results in a unique interior tailored to your style. I’m an old soul at heart living in a modern world, so reimagining classic detailing and layering in an elegant, contemporary way is what I love to do.

Thoughtful design creates impact. You may need to hire a professional to create something special or you might just need a few insider tools — like the ones you’ll find through the Design Hub or The Interior Edit.

Because of my past life as editor of interior magazines, I’m used to exploring the millions of product options available and editing them by cost, by style, by colour — so why not share these insights with other design lovers?

I truly believe that, with a little creativity and guidance, a statement space is achievable for anyone. So let’s have some fun with it!
