design column / outdoor living
This month Sotheby’s magazine asked me to write a column on new outdoor living product finds. From handy side tables to relaxing hammocks, here are some of my favourite finds. While I’m writing this it’s pouring with rain outside - I’m using the image of that gorgeous Italian villa to mentally transport myself somewhere tropical!
Table talk
If you’re looking for an outdoor coffee table that’s a talking point this design is sure to get attention. The table comes in a large kidney-shape and a small circular design that cleverly nest together or can be moved apart. The top is a practical porcelain that mimics natural Paonazzo marble and the legs are textured, stained timber suitable for outdoor use. The subtly curved Cub side tables are also a must-see.

Future float
Lounge in style this summer with the Oliver James collection of luxury pool floats from Dawson & Co. Inspired by the coasts of L.A. and the South of France, this elegant collection comes in a range of colours and each piece is made to last with top-notch tailoring and durable fabrics. Made to order in a variety of designs from Dawson & Co.
Garden party
The Garden Glory brand was born from the frustration of not being able to find a white garden hose, and the desire to design luxury garden accessories. The company is based in Sweden and the website is a must-view, featuring products such as the Diamond Ring Bird Feeder, the Gold Claw Hose Holder and Level Up Your Game gardening kits. Garden Glory Hose Kits from $509 online (worldwide shipping available).
High roller
Outdoor entertaining is a summer highlight that’s even better with a good tipple. Roll the party outside with the Malmo trolley from Coco Republic in charcoal powder-coated steel and woven fibre that complements any exterior. The beauty of a bar trolley is it can be used for any occasion from al fresco breakfasts to evening cocktails, then styled and kept inside to make a decor statement. Coco Republic Malmo Trolley, $1695.
Back in fashion
Frustrated with outdoor cushions in lacklustre designs that don’t last? Continue your interior design style outdoors with eye-catching designs from Zanders & Co. With dramatic patterns like playful palms, zig zag and chic stripes, each cushion is made in textiles from designer fabric houses and you can also purchase high quality inners on the site. Zanders & Co outdoor cushions, from $125.
Social light
While built-in outdoor lighting is great sometimes you need a flexible, transportable option that’s by your side wherever you want to be. The Balad lamp from Jardin comes in a simple, modern design featuring a bamboo handle. It has warm and cool light settings (including a candle flicker setting), up to 14 hours of light before requiring charging and it’s weatherproof so you don’t need to stress about leaving it outside. Jardin set of 3 Balad garden lamps, $410.
