Boh Runga jewellery reveal

I’m a long-time fan of Boh Runga jewellery. Not only is Boh a beautiful soul, she also produces creative pieces that I can wear with my fave soft jeans, tee and blazer then let the accessories do the talking. The Boh Runga Jewellery store was moving to a new location in Ponsonby that required gutting and a new fitout and I was lucky enough to be on board as the interior designer. We worked alongside the building team to plan the interior renovation, and also created the colour scheme, custom cabinetry concepts, statement stone work, lighting and furniture requirements. The end result features dusky pink and green provides a colourful yet calming backdrop for the product lines to pop.

I took Boh stone shopping at one of my favourite suppliers where we spotted lots of slabs we liked. But it was only when we ventured into a room out the back where offcuts are stored that we really fell in love! This pink and green marble had been sitting there for ages - it’s quite the statement so I can see why it’s not for everyone, but for us it was the perfect inspiration point for the interior.

The marble has touches of the Boh Runga Jewellery aqua-like brand colour in it, so it complemented the in-store merchandise beautifully. We used it sparingly as a custom-designed front counter and on the cabinetry to create textural interest around the room. Rather than install a wall to close off space at the back of the store we chose to use a soft green velvet curtain as a floor-to-ceiling divider so it could be pulled back and the entire space used for events, or closed off to conceal stock.

The Boh Runga product offering has grown from jewellery to baby clothes, Boh-se wine, ceramics, candles and other cool collabs. The team needed a substantial shelving system to display groupings of products that swap out over time. Discovering there is recessed space behind a wall is always an exciting development at the studio, as it means we can use the cavity to create unique built-in storage systems. In this instance we designed a floor to ceiling system with triangular shapes and shelves in different heights, lacquered in Resene Half Robin Egg Blue.

This jewellery cabinet houses compartments for different collections with glass tops and drawers for visibility and easy access. We created a drop-down corner space complete with stools and a marble top where customers can play with the ‘Pick & Mix’ individual jewellery components and try different pieces on. Two wall hung cabinets with rounded corners provide more storage at eye level.

The base of the cabinets features fluted panelling also painted in Resene Half Robin Egg Blue to add a playful, textural touch. I love the fresh, minty pop of colour - it’s enough to add impact without being so bright it dominates the merchandise. While these panels were created by our cabinetmaker, you can now buy pre-made panels you can cut and paint yourself for home DIY projects.
